By act of Congress today is a day set aside to honor the memory of men and women of law enforcement killed in the line of duty. This annual event, known as Peace officers Memorial Day is held on May 15th. It is a day set aside to pay tribute to over 17,000 law enforcement officers who have been killed in the line of duty.
It is a time to remember them for their service and sacrifice. Please keep their families and fellow officers in your thoughts at this time. Too often we as a society only value and remember their contribution in time crisis or tragedy. Today you are reminded to take time to remember their contribution to our nation.
Today the readers of Opining Quill are asked to offer a prayer in memory of those that have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Please remember the immediate families of the fallen and the fellow officers for they are all fraternal brothers and sisters.
Peace Officers Memorial Day is part of Police Week when observances should remind us of the ongoing need for vigilance against all forms of criminal activity. Your support of police activity and assistance in reporting suspicious activity are two ways you can contribute to aiding our local police on the job.
